An Example of a Cigarette Case
You may think its funny when people make lawsuits for something that seems as harmless as smoking in public, but you would be wrong. The issue is not funny. The government puts out rules to stop people smoking in public areas. They have programs to help them quit smoking yet some people seem content to put themselves in an early grave. Imagine the situation, you and your partner have gone out to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or a happy occasion, and you have a gathering of people sat behind you smoking and coughing. Not only does it smell of smoke it distracts you from your meal. Now why should you have to go to all the effort of moving away from them when you have every right to be there?
You have the same rights as everyone else and shouldn’t have to put up with anyone else’s dirty habits just because they wish to die early. You may think, well what can I do? The only logical thing is to complain to the manager and hope he moves them along, when more to the point there is a law in place to separate smoking and non smoking areas, or even more important to stop public smoking altogether.
Ten years ago you would have been laughed at for even suggesting somewhere like this but now with a situation similar to this you could put a strong case forward for negligence and customer health issues. You would evidently sound quite strange, suing a company for letting somebody smoke but it is a serious damage to your health and should be dealt with.
Think about how much of a better cause you would be doing just by showing one company that as people we have rights and we should uphold them.
